The patient became septic and suffered numerous organ failures, which included the kidneys that did not heal. It was her new normal to have hemodialyses as well as peritoneal dialysis. Over the course of the 80 days she spent in medical center, her world changed forever. Angelica endured dialysis treatments for more than a decade and half before she could undergo her kidney transplant. Angelica would be receiving the donated kidney from her mother. On September 13 2013 Angelica and her mom underwent an operation to transplant their kidneys at two remarkable hospitals across the street from each other: the Memory University Hospital as well as Children's Hospital of Atlanta Egleston.
